Sheriff's tax sale under Texas Tax Code Chapter 34: properties are sold under a judgment for delinquent taxes on the first Tuesday of the month; the opening bid is the lesser of the judgment amount (taxes, penalties, interest and costs) or the adjudged value, and the highest bidder receives a sheriff's deed. The owner may redeem within two years for homestead or agricultural property (paying the price plus 25% in the first year, 50% in the second) and within 180 days for other property (25%), per Sec. 34.21.
